Sclerocarya birrea. (A. Rich) Hochst - isolated as 1,11-undecanedioic acid
Abstract
The petroleum spirit extract of
Sclerocarya birrea (A. Rich) Hochst was screened for its chemical constituents. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the extract indicates the presence of a cmpound with an aldehyde functional group. An acid derivative was prepared from the extract and identified to be 1,11-undecanedioic acid, a compound that has found application in synthetic plastics, perfumes and agricultural chemical compositions.
