Isotherms for the adsorption of some quaternary amines from glycol solution unto a–goethite surface

Abstract

The isotherms for the adsorption of the quaternary ammonium salts – (C₂H₅)₄N+Cl^-, C2H5)₄N⁺Br-, (C₂H₅)₄N⁺I^-, (NH₄)⁺Cl^- and methylene blue from glycol solutions have been determined at 25, 30 and 35^oC. It has been suggested that some features of these isotherms might be understood on the basis of a reaction scheme that incorporates simple adsorption at the glycerol/FeOOH interface without cation or anion exchange.
