Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or TXT document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Submissions to Girls Studies must be uploaded as OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF documents through the online submission system.

Manuscripts should be single-spaced in 10- or 12-point Times New Roman (or similar) font.

Manuscript length may vary; typically manuscripts are 10-15 pages in lenght, but can be longer. No manuscripts are rejected solely based on length.

Authors should consult Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition, for specifics regarding manuscript preparation.

All authors should review NCTE's guidelines for gender-fair use of language when preparing a manuscript for submission.

Decisions on all manuscripts will be given as either:

  • Accept Submission: The submission will be accepted without revisions.

  • Revisions Required: The submission will be accepted after minor changes have been made.

  • Resubmit for Review: The submission needs to be re-worked, but with significant changes, may be accepted. It will require a second round of review, however.

  • Decline Submission: The submission will not be published with the journal.
